A friend of mine told me years ago that she was going to switch her deodorant to a more natural choice. I was especially intrigued in our odd topic since I knew that there are unhealthy chemicals in excess in the popular brands that are readily available. After checking into the benefits of using a natural product, I discovered an overwhelming need to also make the switch. Things were going pretty well until around the fourth day and there was an embarrassing fail in the smell-good department, something I had to refer to as a natural disaster. After some researching and experimentation, I formulated the best remedy I could concoct for such a cruel yet apparently somewhat common problem.
When you’re first switching from “traditional” deodorants and antiperspirants to a natural deodorant, I recommend doing this detox once a week until you notice your natural option working to its full potential.
Here’s my preferred list of ingredients and chosen method to detox armpits:
Mix 1/4 cup bentonite clay
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons filtered water
3 drops of lemongrass essential oil (optional)
Directions:
Blend all ingredients together in a glass or plastic bowl with a stirrer that is not metal. If you would like to see why you should not use metal, click here
The Benefits:
- The armpit area will release toxins and bacteria held in by chemical-heavy antiperspirants when switching to a natural alternative. Depending on how long you’ve used a chemical option, the amount of toxins released add to the irritating scent that needs to be removed for the natural option to actually do its job.
- Detoxing the armpits can create a healthy space for improvements to overall functions of the axillary lymph nodes which help filter the lymph in the upper region of your body.
